Senior Data Scientist

  • €70,000 - €90,000 per year

Lead the setup of our data science department, designing scalable architectures and impactful data solutions to optimize operations and drive growth.

Job description

We’re Brenger, and we're building a smarter, greener future for bulky goods transport. Our sustainable platform optimizes every van on the road to reduce CO₂ emissions and streamline delivery operations.

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead our data initiatives, including modeling, forecasting, and optimization, while also contributing to the data engineering work necessary to build a robust data platform for the company and future team members. Your work will directly benefit our couriers, enhance customer experiences, and improve collaboration with partners like Marktplaats. If you’re happy when you are the go-to expert in data and mathematics, we’d love to hear from you!

What we are looking for
We need someone with extensive and diverse data science experience to found our data team and platform. Our ideal candidate would describe themselves as a 65/35±5/5% chimera of Data Science and Data Engineering. In your first year, you’ll work hands-on across both domains—spanning Data Science and Data Engineering—while benefiting from our SE team’s DevOps support. Once the platform is set up, you’ll focus more on Data Science, while also taking on the responsibility of building and growing your team as we scale.

Tech stack

You will interface with data produced by our application services, which usually reside in PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, in addition to data from analytics services, logs, and such. There is a small existing data platform with the usual suspects (storage, ETLs, dashboarding, etc.) that you will be expected to upgrade/replace with a more productive, future-proof setup.

Your future team

You’ll be joining  as a first member of a new team, next to a strong development team of 9 people, with the rest of the 50+ people team split between Business, Sales, Operations, and Customer Care. We follow a hybrid-onsite model: 2 days from the office and 3 days from wherever you prefer. At this stage, we don’t offer full-remote options, and new team members are expected to be fully immersed in the office for at least the first month.

We aim to keep meetings light. Each Monday, we kick off the week with an all-hands meeting where every department shares updates. For communication, we rely on Slack and Google Meet for video calls and async communication, minimizing email overload. To help you focus, we’ve designated Tuesdays as meeting-free days.

Your impact on our success

By becoming the founder of Brenger's data operations, you will establish a strong data framework that will empower stakeholders to make better data-driven decisions, and ultimately delight our customers & couriers. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to core algorithms that are key to our future success.
